Maggie Monday (June 5, 2017)

It’s my first day back at work after maternity leave, so it’s my first full day without my girl by my side. A weird, unfamiliar feeling, to be sure.

I’ve spent the past 10 weeks with this little human as my sidekick, hanging out at home, going on walks, meeting up with friends for lunch dates, running errands, and snuggles on the couch — whatever I was doing, she was right there. And it was amazing.

I expected that I might feel restless during maternity leave, or be ready to go back to work to get back on a more solid routine or feel more useful. In fact, Maggie and I were able to develop a lovely little routine of our own, and because I kept busy with things like blogging, freelance writing, and Beautycounter sales I always felt busy and purposeful in addition to the satisfaction I got in my new role as a mom.

In short, I loved my maternity leave. Every second of it, really. Maggie has been an incredibly easy baby, which certainly contributed to that, and I’ll always treasure the special time we had to be together all day, every day.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to spend day after day with this little love?:

She had her two-month doctor’s appointment last Wednesday, and weighed in at 11 pounds, 6 ounces (up from 8 pounds, 7 ounces at her one-month check-up). Way to grow, Maggie-girl! She was a champ getting her shots, too. She SCREAMED during them, but was able to calm down pretty quickly afterward, and slept fine that night. She’s just the best.

Here are a few recent photos of her to share. She is getting too big too fast, especially when we look back at photos of her from just a few weeks ago!:

Please send some good thoughts my way as I head back to work today, and as Kevin and I start to develop our new routine as a family with two working parents. There might be some growing pains along the way as we get used to this new reality!
