Paul Kwiatkowski is the man behind Winston-Salem based brand Wax+Cloth, a company that crafts quality handmade goods such as bags, leather accessories, and home goods. (In other words, this is a WONDERFUL brand to check out to get a few gifts checked off your holiday list!)
Wax+Cloth bags are made with canvas and denim, and are often waxed by hand for water resistance and strength. The brand’s offerings almost always include an array of large and small bags, able to carry everything from a pen to a full trip’s worth of clothing.
Paul, who taught himself to sew just a few years ago, started the first version of his company in 2013 when he lived in Raleigh. The brand began with backpacks, and then expanded to include tote bags, Dopp kits, t-shirts, keychains, and more. In 2015, Paul moved back to Winston (he grew up here!), and moved his workspace downtown earlier this year. He says he loves being in a growing area and be around other local businesses and makers.
“Wax+Cloth began because I love to learn and create, and now I share that with my fiancĂ©, Virginia. She makes candles and bath bombs for the brand, and is adding new things as fast as I am. We keep expanding the offerings as we produce them for our home, friends, and family,” Paul shared.
