I am SO excited to share this artist’s work with you today for Day One of my Holiday Giveaway Extravaganza.
I met Katie Schermbeck through a local women’s get together a couple of years ago, and immediately fell in love with her art (and with Katie — she’s adorable and so sweet, not to mention talented!). She and her husband have since moved to a town near Raleigh, but I still wanted to include her in this local giveaway round-up because Winston-Salem will always claim Katie! (Lots of North Carolina cities can claim her, in fact! This NC native has lived in Bailey, Kinston, Apex, Boone, Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Wendell. Impressive!)
Katie says she began painting as an escape route and a way to be creative again. She’d always considered herself to be creative, but started being much more intentional about it five years ago. “Painting was a way for me to rediscover things that I enjoyed about my personality, with a new way to express them,” she shared.
When it comes to art, Katie is driven by color. She describes her work as primarily abstract, acrylic paintings on canvas, and her art has been exhibited in galleries and private collections from New York City to San Francisco to Canada to France and beyond. She says her main hope for her work is that it will allow the viewer to slow down, smile, and feel like they can breathe a little deeper. (I LOVE that goal!)
