This coming Monday is Leap Day which, as we all know, only comes around once every four years. In addition to dressing up like Leap Day William in yellow and blue (you know, as tradition dictates), I’ve rounded up some fun ways to celebrate come February 29. Think of it as my Leap Day gift to you.

- Great American Cookies: Were you lucky enough to be born on February 29? If so, be sure to hit up your local Great American Cookies location (with a valid ID — proving your birthday — in tow) for a free cookie CAKE. (Yep — not just one measly cookie. The whole cake. Activities (these are mostly for kids, but obviously any Leap Day lover can participate!):
- Make an adorable Leap Day treat (which should be frog-themed, of course, since they LEAP!). I especially love the look of these cupcakes, these fruity frogs, and these Oreo frogs.
- Fold together an army of origami frogs. (Did you know “army” is the name for a group of frogs?)
- Craft some lovely lily pads out of tissue paper.
Fun Facts:
- We have the ancient Egyptians to thank for Leap Day, as they were the first to realize that the solar year didn’t quiiiiiiite align with the man-made calendar year.
- However, it was Julius Cesar who officially designated February 29 as Leap Day waaaaay back in 45 B.C.
- Astrologers believe that those born on February 29 have unusual talents and personalities reflecting their special birthday status.
- Since 1988, the town of Anthony, Texas, has called itself the Leap Year capital of the world, organizing a Leap Year festival and inviting Leap Year babies (“leapings”) from around the world to join them.
