Let me start by saying that I’m very much on the fence on this whole romper thing.
On the one hand, they look super cute on some people. For example, these ladies can rock a romper:
But if they don’t fit just right, they look so very wrong:
From what I’ve read, the trick to wearing a romper well is all about fit and frills. That is, make sure it fits well (not too snugly — go for looser and longer) and that it doesn’t have too many “girly” touches (because then you kind of look like you’re wearing a onesie, and that’s bad news for everyone involved). This seems like sound advice to me.
Have any of y’all given the romper look a try on yourself? Thoughts? Tips? (I need to just try one on and see for myself if it’s a look I can get away with, but I’m afraid it might be a whole peplum situation all over again. I learned quickly that I should stay away from all things peplum. Yeah — not a good call for moi.)
At any rate, here are some romper picks I’m digging (at least on others!):
- Crochet Trim Romper (Free People):
- Getaway Romper (Madewell):
- Lemlem for J. Crew Romper (J. Crew):
- Indigo Dye Romper (Splendid):
- Floral Crepe Romper (LC Lauren Conrad):
- BDG Knit Stripe Romper (Urban Outfitters):
- Black Romper (H&M):
- Kimchi Blue Ashley Lace-Up Back Romper (Urban Outfitters):
So — yay or nay on the whole romper trend?
(I asked Kevin, and he said he hates “those things” and that they look like clothes babies would wear. My response, “So then if I got one, you think you’d still hate it?” His reply? “Absolutely yes.” I’m thinking he’s a pretty solid “no” vote. Anyone else want to weigh in?)
No rompers for this girl!!! But Caroline looks adorable in them 🙂
