This past weekend was one full of celebrations! Kevin and I headed down to Columbia, South Carolina, yesterday to attend a barbecue being held in my sister and her fiance’s honor. Susan and Marty get married on July 27 (less than a month away at this point!), and this party was thrown by a collection of Marty’s great-aunts and great-uncles.
The whole event was wonderful: we lucked out with great weather, the food was delicious, and the company was fun. Kevin and I enjoyed getting to spend time with several of Marty’s relatives we hadn’t met before. Everyone was so kind and welcoming (no surprise there — all of Marty’s family is awesome). We even got to meet Baby Caroline — Marty’s brand new niece. It was such a good evening!
Here’s me with the bride-to-be. (Isn’t she adorable?):
Since the party was Saturday evening, it made sense for us to spend the night in Columbia. That meant we got to spend extra time with my parents before Kevin and I drove back to Winston-Salem and my folks went back to Atlanta. Bonus!
It was especially perfect since my dad’s birthday is tomorrow. To celebrate that event, we all went to brunch this morning at an amazing restaurant in Columbia called The Oak Table. Everything was absolutely incredible, starting with the homemade berry and house-made ricotta pop-tart and maple pecan sticky bun the six of us split as an appetizer to the lemon zest fritters they brought out at the end of the meal as a birthday treat for my dad:
For my main course, I went with the BLT with brioche, goat cheese, heirloom tomato and bacon. Incredible. I highly recommend it should you find yourself in the Columbia area at some point.
Here’s the whole crew post-brunch. (Don’t we look happy? We had great company and a delicious meal, after all.):
How was your weekend? What are your upcoming plans for the 4th?
