My life is really good. I’m in awe of how good it is, in fact. How did I get this fortunate? I’m married to the very best person I know, I have incredible, smart, and hilarious friends, my dog is super cool (and oh-so snuggly), and I get to do so many fun things. Whoa.
Here’s a quick smattering of some of the awesome-er things that have happened in recent days:
- The ice storm that hit Winston-Salem on Friday meant that I hosted an impromptu sleepover with two of my best pals! We watched The Devil Wears Prada (which Watson had never seen) and Mean Girls (which Micheal had never seen). Kevin made delicious vegetarian chocolate chili for dinner Friday and I made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. We stayed in the house until midday Saturday, when everyone felt comfortable to drive and after filling up on a yummy, warm breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast (like my grandma used to make — or close to it), and cheese grits. Obviously, there was lots of laughing and even some kitchen dancing. I love those girls.
- Kevin and I got a new rug on Saturday! Our old one (which we loved) had grown pretty raggedy over the past few months thanks to Fulton’s short-lived habit of digging up the rug. Really helpful, huh? He seems to be over that phase (finally — fingers crossed he doesn’t relapse!), and so we figured it was time for a replacement. We found this one at TJ Maxx Home Goods on Saturday afternoon and love the new addition to our living room floor!
- A few days ago, I went into “my” bathroom (we have one and a half bathrooms in our house, so the half bath is where I keep all my getting ready stuff) and found a gift from Kevin waiting for me: the Coach Poppy Blossom perfume I’d been wanting! What a sweet guy he is. I think I’ll keep him.
- For lunch today, I had the most delicious salad from Trader Joe’s. It was their Roasted Butternut Squash, Red Quinoa and Wheatberry Salad with honey sesame vinaigrette, and it was amazing, and I highly recommend it! (Also, though I’ll probably be dropping by TJ’s whenever I have a craving for this salad, I did find a copycat recipe in case you’re interested in recreating it at home.)
Upcoming highlights to look forward to this week: movie night with our friends Sam, Guy, Allen, and Mary tomorrow night to see Zero Dark Thirty (can’t wait!), country night with some work friends on Friday night (we’re venturing to this place for dinner and following it up with some dancing here). And, of course, the Superbowl is this Sunday, too, so we’ll be hanging out with friends for that event.
Like I said: Life is good!
