A little over a year ago, I became a kombucha convert. (Has it only been a year since I’ve been drinking this stuff? Wow — I was missing out before then!) The fermented tea has become a staple in my digestive health routine, and I love that it’s gaining in popularity, making it available more widely.

One brand I became aware of a few months ago that’s earned a spot in my kombucha-loving heart is UpDog Kombucha, based right here in Winston-Salem! Not only is this stuff delicious (my favorite brew of theirs is their lavender flavor, Happy Baby), but it also has a cool story behind it. The brand was started by two Wake grads (who were then Wake students — undergrads, no less!), and has since grown to be available in more than 50 locations in the area (including my beloved Village Juice — yay!). Many of these locations are outside of Winston, in places like Charlotte and Davidson and Greensboro. The stuff has really caught on, and it’s no wonder why — this stuff is SO good.
(Here’s me drinking a Happy Baby with MY happy baby!):
In addition to their regular flavor line-up (which is solid), the UpDog team will be brewing up some seasonal offerings — Carolina Strawberry and Peach Basil — to be on the lookout for this summer. Plus, the kombucha masters behind this brand will be hosting a Kombucha-Brewing Workshop in collaboration with Colony Urban Farm Store here in W-S on June 25. (More info on that is available here!)
