Holiday Giveaway Extravaganza: ZZZ Bears

Do you know a child who has trouble sleeping? Maybe it’s your own child battling a fear of the dark. Maybe it’s a relative’s little one who struggles with consistent bad dreams. Maybe it’s a friend whose child just can’t settle down at night.

These military-inspired stuffed bears were created to help kids who deal with nighttime anxiety (which is practically any child at some point!). Sgt. I love the story behind ZZZ Bears’ creation:

ZZZ Bears is a Winston-Salem based brand created by Justin Baum, who was the lead writer and creative director for the Marine Corp’s ad agency from 2005-2012. Here’s how he got the idea for the brand:

“Every time I’d go to a Marine base to film a TV commercial, I’d bring my then 5-year-old daughter home a little present. At the time, she was having trouble sleeping. Bad dreams, fear of the dark — typical kid stuff. So I brought her a teddy bear from the base and told her a story.

‘This is Marine bear,’ I said. ‘And he’s defended the nation for 200 years. And now he’s going to protect you while you sleep.’

‘What if he falls asleep?” she asked.

‘He’s a Marine. He would never fail his mission,’ I responded.

And that night, she slept like a bear in hibernation — and a business was born!”

ZZZ Bears makes bears that represent each branch of the military: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. They also make a bear in pink camouflage PJs and a police bear, too.

Earlier this year, ZZZ Bears was featured on ABC’s The View. In fact, they called the bears “one of their favorite products of all time,” and host Gretta Monohan used the bear successfully with her son who was having trouble sleeping at night.

But wait — it gets better: ZZZ Bears was, in part, created as a way to give back to the military community, so every month they donate bears to children who have lost parents in the line of duty.
