But Why? (Recent Oddities)

A brief collection of things I’ve heard about recently that don’t seem to make much sense:

  • I haven’t read Fifty Shades of Grey (and don’t plan on it), but the fact that it exists doesn’t make me upset or anything (well, not too upset, at least). What does irk me was learning that adult fiction publisher Clandestine Classics is capitalizing on this newly heightened trend of eroticism by electronically re-releasing five classics (Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, to name a few) that have been, um, “enhanced” with added sexual tension and steamy scenes. WHY IS THIS OKAY? (No one buy these e-books, I’m begging you.)

  • Hooked on caffeine on the go? Fiat’s taking it to the next level by including an espresso machine in some of their cars. I can’t help but think this is a bad idea (and many a lawsuit) waiting to happen. (Don’t get too excited, though. They’ll only be available in Italy for a while.)

What strange stuff have you come across lately?

  1. Wha?!?! (referring specifically to the “sex-ing” up of 19th century novels written by women) Call it fan fiction, but actually altering a text under the name of Austen and the Brontes annoys the heck out of me.
